8000 rpm at cold start...OUCH!!!

The other morning when I started my car when it was 30 degrees outside, the damn thing ran wide open. I had just woken up and that's just not something that starts your day off good. The tach was pegged, I shut it off real quick, checked under the hood and the throttle cable had stuck on part of the fast idle cam linkage. I fixed it, or so I thought, and it did it again a few minutes later.

I have lined it all out now. My question is this...how many occurrences like this does it take to really junk a motor? I will throw in that I use Mobil 1 synthetic, just in case some of you want to share your opinions on how this may or may not help to reduce damage in a case like this. Thanks.

It really doesn't matter what oil you run in it, the problem is the engine is dry after sitting for a while.

About all you can do is drive it and hope nothing major was done.

You didnt help it any....

Most likely it will be fine.

You mean I didn't help it by using synthetic, right?

Anyway, so far, so good. Been a week now.

He meant you didn't help the motor by redlining it like that I wouldn't knock mobil 1, I've been using it for a while and I really like it.

What oil you use will have very little effect on valvtrain reliablilty. If it didn't puke right then and there, then you shouldn't have any problems.

I wasn't knocking the Mobil1, I use it and love it. As stated above, I was talking about the fact that you pegged it at start up.

reminds me of all the guys in the parking lot of my school. 40* outside or even 70* outside, but they still start up their engines and rev the crap out of them trying to show off (and the V6 camaro guy with corvette emblems really pisses me off), everyday. i got a feeling there not gonna be driving those cars all year long.
