stalling-can no one help me?
stalling-can no one help me?
I have an '87 Firebird, 2.8L...no mechanic has been able to help me...it's had an apparent intermittent stalling problem for about 3 years now, many trips to the shop, but recently discovered something interesting. Every time I start the engine it stalls now..I have to shut off the ignition for 10 seconds, then restart, the engine will race for about 10 or so more seconds, then will kick down, then it's fine. (It RUNS great after). We thought to count when we discovered you have to reset the IAC motor after disconnecting the battery..obviously though i don't disconnect it every time I shut it off. To get my car to run now I always have to count to 10. Yesterday however, it stalled twice at stop lights..does anyone have any advice?! I've had so many problems that practically every part is new. No codes in computer. I really don't want to give up on it though, but it appears she's going downhill again...any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Yeah, I've replaced the TPS, EGR valve and solenoid, O2 sensor..it's also been to the dealer and to about 5 other places.
It started acting really weird after, I don't know if it is a coincidence, but I put a different brand of fuel injector cleaner in, drove it home. The next morning I started her up, it backfired!, stalled..ever since then it has done this stalling every time thing. This is the first time it has stalled at stop lights though. it was just a sudden loss of RPMs. No time to even press down on the accelerator.
We did think maybe the cold start valve, when it used to just stall first thing on start up.
Well getting that all out didn't make me feel any better.
Thanks for the reply though!
