Fuel Issues...

I also have this posted in the TBI forum, but it wasnt getting viewed much and isnt really specific to TBI but...

I have a issue here with a new car I just bought. Basically I was told that the fuel pump was thought to be bad, and it didnt run because of that. Well I just replaced it last night, and it sure isnt the fuel pump. I tested the old one and it works fine, and I tested the new one and it works fine also. It seems that there is no power getting back to the fuel pump. I checked the fuse, and it was fine, and I checked the diagrams and found that there is a fuel pump relay and another relay that had something to do with the fuel also (Fuul Pump/Oil Pressure switch?). Can anyone tell me where in the car those are located? I am thinking about replacing those next. I have a 91 camaro RS, with a 350 TBI in there... (not stock) I am running out of ideas... any help is appreciated.

*UPDATE* I am now thinking the relays arent the issue. The "G" pin in the diagnostics plug under the dash, if given 12 volts to should power up the fuel pump. Well it doesnt for me, so what are some possibilites of things I can check for this?

Any Ideas guys?

Thanks

Thanks

HAve you checked your fuel pump relaY???

Also, the oil pressure switch is in the block right above the oil filter. It requires a special tool to take out and replace.
If your gauges are showing oil preassure constantly than the switch is not the problem.

Its sounds to me like the relay is bad, or the wires that go to the relay might be damaged. check that.!

Can you hear the relay trip. Its quite noticeably. Turn your key to on position, but dont turn it to where you start the car. Than listen. You should hear a trip (click, thump) noise from the firewall and your pump should prime itself for a sec.
If you can't hear that, than its most likely your relay.
If you can hear it, than check to see that the connections are all good and there are no loose wires anywhere.

Also, check a fuse thats next to the battery on the body. Face the battery from the front and look to your left. You will see a black fuse holder. Open it up and there is a 20amp fuse. I am willing to bet that it might be out.

For me, the realy did not work after I blew that fuse. So I guess check that first. (Sorry I am thinking and writing and remembering at the same time).
Anyways good luck, and if you did blow the fuse make sure you find the short .
Laters.

Hey Jesse, I have a spare relay if you want to use it to test.

The relay is in the upper driverside corner of the engine compartment behind the booster.

If you need a relay to test with, let me know.

Jeff! - Hows it going? I wish you would have caught me a day sooner. I just went over to bergstroms and picked one up. Thanks alot for the offer though. I should have called you first. I still have to actually, wondering now with this new toy if you still have stuff for sale...

I believe I might have the issue narrowed down... There is a relay on the passenger side that has a wire harness that is melted... I am going to try to replace this harness, and also the relay (assuming its the fuel pump relay... Jeff are you sure its not the passenger side fender?) and see where I am at. I hope this is it, though it still have to figure out how the harness melted and solve that issue also. There are 2 identical relay's. 1 on the passgerside firewall area, and one on the drivers side firewall area. What is each one for?

Thanks Guys...

Hey jesse, if you want to look under the hood of the 92 feel free. I'm not working friday or saturday this week finally, so if you want, I could go for a ride and bring the car out by yours and help you figure this out.

On my 89 and 92 the fuel pump relay was right behind the brake booster. Their is kind of a metal bracket that mounts two relays to it. Its right next to and slightly below the hood hinge. Its one of those two. Although if I remember reading correctly, isn't your new one a 5 speed? I doubt that would make a difference but anything is possible I guess.

If you want give me a call on my cell, I am heading home from work right away, and can look at the car then. I will pm you my cell number again.
