how do u put a fuel pump on??
ive been trying for the last two and a half hours to put a fuel pump in my 86 carb'd camaro. the old ones off bu the new one wont go on. i know its the right part number and everything.
heres what ive tried unsuccessfully so far:
the bolt i used to try to secure the pushrod in place wasnt long enuf so the rod was able to slip away.
then i tried to 'heavily grease' up the pushrod like the manual says, and it stuck in there pretty well, but i still cant get the fuel pump to lay flush with the housing and bolt it in.
are there any secrets i can get a hold of to help me install this pump, i need my car running because its finals week, and those are usually fairly important to attend.
thanks,
daniel

Turn the engine over one full turn of the crank. It's probably sitting where the eccentric on the cam has the pump push rod pushed all the way down.
It never will just sit up against the block by itself, there will always be some tension on it; but when you get the rod to its retracted position, it's not hard at all to get the little finger under the end of it and hold the pump up to the block against its spring to where you can get the bolts in.

Dont do it by the balancer bolt. I've seen them break off before. What I do it put a set of vicegrips on the PS Pulley nut or hub and turn it from there.
