Would the Spartan short blocks sold at advanced auto be a good foundation to start with? I would change the cam and thats it. They claim everything is factory specs. Does anyone have one????/

 

I used to work at one of AA superstores, we rarely sold those crate motors. They are just rebuilt cores, so in therory it will be like a factory motor. Maybe not to the same tolerances though. Also, changing parts like the cam will void the warrenty. I think they used all federal mogul parts, minus sealed power which is marketed under federal mogul, but actually made by Dana. So no GM parts minus the reused ones. Honestly i would start with a little bit better block if you have performance in mind. Good thing about Advanced is it is an easy point of accountability. Also, this is retial remeber, no price is fixed, try haggling it. Big ticket items = bonuses, so they will want to sell it to you.
