LG4 weak areas

Hi all. I just bought an '84 Berlinetta LG4 with about 100k miles on it. The engine seems to run fine short of needing a tuneup. What are the weak areas and easiest things to fix (read: inexpensive) on this motor? I don't want to "build" the motor but want more than the measly 150 hp that it puts out. How well will drop-in/bolt-on items like K&N, Flowmaster, headers, etc. work? It has the 4-bbl quadra-sh*t on it and I due to local laws can't remove all the emissions crap.

Just about everything is weak on the motor. The q-jet actually is a very good carburetor when tuned correctly. I would suggest getting headers first followed by a cat-back, I prefer the Hooker cat-back. Get the cheapest one and have it welded on, that's what I did, $200 for the cat-back. Sounds better and looks better than flowmaster in my opinion. There are soundclips of it on the exhaust board. A cam change would also definately wake the motor up.

So they sell headers that have provisions for the emissions crap (O2 sensor, AIR tubes)?

yes, yes they do. Edelbrock TES, SLP, Dynomax, Hedman, they all make headers with AIR and O2 provisions.
