RPM gauge is going crazy!!!
here it goes, my friend had posted here about my car, the sports coupe, cc qjet, with the lg4 305. it was about my car turning off when it was running and the rpm gauge going crazy when it did. well he was told to change the ignition module but i just changed it right now and the car is still doing the same thing, it starts, and then the rpm gauge goes crazy and it turns off. i just put the ignition module and the car did the same thing. what else can it be, could it be that i put too much heat sync compound on it, or maybe not enough, i don't know, i just put some on the module and then on the plat form where it sits and the car started after i put some starter fluid. it ran for a little and the rpm gauge went crazy again, but it didn't turn off, it did like 2 or 3 times and then it turned off. what can it be? if anyone can help, let me know, its the only car i have, so i want to get it going by tomorrow for work. thanks.

It could be lots of things. Intermittent loss of power at the module, bad coil, poor grounding at the dist. base, bad pickup coil, loose wire, etc. Your on the right track by looking for an ignition problem, its just a matter of finding out what it is.

First off because this part is free, check all your wiring going to the dizzy. pull the connectors out and check for corrosion.
If you find nothing there you could always go to the JY and pick up an old dizzy for a couple bucks to try out.

if it were me, and Iknow how much I hate to **** with little parts and how much I like bright new shiney ones...I'd buy a new distributor. My daytona did the exact, I mean exactly, the same thing and it was the distributor. Even set fuel injection codes.
I had that same problem, with mine took three months to find the problem , I changed the cap, rotor, wires, plugs, PCV, O2 sensors , then took it to a guy I know that dose side work, he changed the distributor ,EGR valve, ignition coil,a alternator, a new timing chain, and set the timing , car is running good now.
