Emissions Legalities (Grrrrrrr)
Ok, here's the deal. I live in Colorado, in the Springs to be exact. Now then, what kind of emissions test do I have to be able to pass? Would I be able to get rid of my EGR? Not for performance gains directly, but rather so I can use an intake that doesn't have egr built in. Or will that make me fail the test no matter what I do? I'm getting aggravated trying to make sure everything is "50 state legal." Can I just ditch the EGR or is that asking for trouble, especially with the smog gaurds?

Go to your states Department of transportation and department of motorvehicles websites and find the information. Here in Illinois if you are in a county that gets tested it is best ot get a 67 or older car and never have to get tested.

Move 35 miles down the road and ditch everthing emmisions related!
No, up there they test harshly as far as I know they arent on the dyno test yet but they do a visuall inspection so the egr has to stay. It doesent need to function though, just look like it. You are stuck with 50 state legal stuff. I suggest you leave it legal for a while and when you get your next test stay a watch what they check, Im sure some places dont give a flying F what your car has done to it as long as it passes and they get thier $$.

Oh BTW theres a (southern rockies region) on this board if you post there you might get some more answers. I know theres alot of guys that are stationed up at FT carson that are members of this board.

I thought the Springs had the dyno as well, Envirotest (Air Care Colorado when you write the check). But, I could be wrong.
Eliminating the EGR won't make your computer very happy. Your TBI manifold options are fairly limited, anyway, and all will have EGR provision.

ok, so if i kept the egr, which would be ok by my book, i just want to increase my options, would i be able to switch to a dual plane manifold with egr? i've looked at a couple but the egr mounting looks different than on the tbi setup. can i just switch valves to make it work?

Depends on what your looking at. I would say if it does have an egr port on it your allright. There not to strict they just want to see all the emmisions equiptment on there.

I'm thinking of running either an edelbrock performer or a holley stealth with egr. are all of the chevy(gm) egr vavles the same? so i can just swap the one that's on my l03 right now onto the aftermarket?

The egr setup is the same. 2nd though, are you planning to run a TBI spacer adaptor, have a carb on there, or found some tbi stuff I wasnet aware of? My 4x4's a tbi so im interested now.
