Question about the difference between tpi and tbi 5.7L blocks

were the tbi and tpi 5.7L blocks different from 87 - 92? Did one of them come with a four bolt mains? And did one block come stock with a hydralic roller cam? Thanks guys for your help

Theirs a few variances in the engines.

2/4 bolt mains
heads were redesigned, intake bolts now at a different angle
1 piece RMS
Roller cam setups becoming a standard

Probably another half million other things that changed in the late 80s too...

just comparing 87-92 blocks (disregarding anything older):

are you talking tpi Fbody blocks, and tbi 350 truck blocks? (no 350 TBI's in f bodies right? )

same block I think, 2 bolt mains all around. Truck 4 bolt blocks was back in the day I think.

tpi's got a roller cam, tbi's got a flat tappet, but had all provisions for a roller cam.

4 bolts arent a thing of the past, i do doubt they used them in our gutless wonders though.

My 4 bolt 350 block is an 84, not out of a third gen obviously tho...

My old 4 bolt one piece seal, roller cam 355 was from a 1992 G20 van.

The 4 bolt main 350 continues all the way up to today. Mercruiser still builds them as boat engines!

Yep, using a 4 bolt Vortec 350 short block for my build up.
