Check and see if your thermostat is stuck open.

ok ... exactly how would i go about doing that. I've never actually had any reason to. so i'm not exactly sure how to do it. Usually i'd just replace it if i thought something was going wrong. But usually the car only runs at a temp of like 100 according to my temp gauge, which i think might not be working quite properly... i replaced the radiator with a brand new one over the summer, and since then it seldom goes over the first line, and no where near 220*. I know the thermostat would open up occassionally while i was on the road. before the radiator was replaced, i'd dog it a bit, and the temp would drop very quickly when the thermostat opened up, but it'd go back up pretty quickly ..and do it agin. but sinc e i replaced it hasn't gotten over like 110, unless it was 100+ degrees outside and i was in traffic. and i know 190 is normal right? i will do though. hell the thing might just be bad. but yea thanks.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes

The temp of the air is controlled by a little door, that is positioned by a cable that goes to the door from the temp slider on the control head. You can see the lever for the little door under the dash, not too far to the pass side from the hump.

I'd bet the cable is messed up somehow.

Vacuum malfunctions will not cause this.

The best way to check your thermostat is to boil it on the stove, and check the opening temperature with a thermometer. I even check new ones before I install them, just to be sure.
