Heads Dart 180CC
Let me give some backround on the engine i'm building.
Parts i have;
350 Block .060 over
Scat Stroker crank 3.75
Scat 5.7 Cap screw Stroker rods w/ floating pins
Speed Pro 383 hyper pistons
Clevite Bearings
ARP bolts everwhere internal
The cam i got is a Lunati Bracket master II # 00011
Adv duration 285
Gross Lift .455
LSA 114
Matching valvetrain kit
May or may not get 1.6 rockers when it comes time.
I have a set of Dart Iron eagle 180 CC runner w/ 72 CC straight plug. Can i use the heads or am i better off using them as a door stoppper? Gonna set redline to 6000 RPM. Should i look for a set of 200CC heads? Gonna be run on the street mainly. Maybe 10% strip when its done.
Let me know the reasoning behind your answer. I've just been getting a bunch of replies that say "yes" or "no".

My goals are street car w/ occasional strip. I want the most power available out of my combo but dont plan on spinning it to 9000 RPM to get it. Want good low end torque and throttle response. As stated not gonna rev past 6000 but i do want to make good power right up until then. As far as HP/TQ... no idea. Would LOVE to see 400/450 but i guess thats all in the tuning.
Thanks

Sounds like you have a few parts and not a clue what it takes to combine parts to gt good power.
The 180cc dart heads are good . They can be much improved with hand porting. Smoothing and general contouring.
The cam will not get you to where you want to be.
Its too small.
For 450 horsepower street strip 383 I'd port the heads some and use a
moderate solid lifter cam like Comp cams #12-502-5 or #12-678-4
You can look them up for yourself on Comp's site.
use a Victor JR manifold port matched to your heads.
Use a 750cfm holley and long tube headers 1-5/8 or 1-3/4"
Build the motor with 10:1 compression.
To get 10:1 on a non-decked block (pistons are .025" in the hole at TDC) you would want to reduce the chambers to 69cc. {approx .030" cut} Measure your assembled deck height first.
Combine this with a th350 with a 3500stall 10" converter and 3.73 or 4.10 rear garing and you get the results your looking for. power to 6000 or so.
For a strong street 383 the 180cc heads are just right.
Those heads have good flow out of the box but really come alive with some general port cleanup.
You have the right heads.

I measured my deck height as .016 in the hole on the mock up yesterday. I fugure my compression ratio to be around 10:1. I have a fresh TH-350 waiting to be swapped in. I havent firmly decided which gears to run yet but 3.73's looked like a good option as i can get a stock Monte SS posi rear untill money falls from the sky.
I'm keeping the TBI and have to learn to burn my own proms so the LSA of 114 is a neccesary evil. It will be easier to learn to tune that way. If i feel i need more performance i can swap to a more aggressive cam once i understand what to look for during tuning. I did look into those cams you reccomended. What do you think is too small about the cam chosen? I was told to look for something in the 225ish range @.050.
450 is my torque goal. 400 is my HP goal. If i come close to either of those with the parts i have currently i'll be happy with the build. If a cam swap is needed down the road to get there so be it. I need to see how my tuning affects things before i get anything too lumpy.
Thanks

The cams I recommended would not work well on a factory TBI or any other EFI that depends on a strong vacuum signal to idle. Best for power with a carb thou.
You should be able to hit 400hp with the lunati cam.
Don't know wether the TBI will want to idle wth a 230deg cam even if ground on 114LSA.
Some Hi vac or Rhoads lifters may help.

For your plans I say keep the heads and port them. Raise the roof, open the throat up to 88%. Slim the guides, and on the fast wall by the short side. remove some metal from there.
And run 1.6 rocker arms or a cam with a good amount of lift. When you dont have a lot of port volume extra lift can help keep the motor from chokeing up early.

Lunati makes a cam in their Voodoo series with around the same duration, more lift and a LSA of 106. I'm getting their matched spring kit #65002. It just so happens to be the same kit they reccomend for the Voodoo cam. Once i get the the engine dialed in and a few miles on it i can swap cams.
I just got a price of $225 to get the bottom end spin balanced with a 1 week turn around time. I close on my house in 1 week so thats what i'm waiting for just in case i need a little extra cash.
Thanks for the responses.
