Timing cover dimples marked from pump?????
Ok I got my engine shipped with a long pump when it was supposed to have a short one. I finally got the short ones sent to my house and I was installing it and a bolt broke. Sux but whatever. So I ordered some ARP bolts. Now here is my question.
I took off the pump and noticed that th bolts that are on the back of it (the ones that close the pump's backside) line up with those little dimples on the aluminum cover. I never knew what the dimples were for. Is it OK for these bolts to be pushing down hard on these dimples? On the side that didn't have the bolt break, the pumps backside bolt made a mark. It was really close to being instaleld all the way. I am affraid that this pressure will do something bad to my cam.
Please fill me in. Thanks.

You'll need a long pump, if you're using stock accessories from about 69 or newer.
No you definitely don't want the WP cover screws smashing against the TC.
Get some "button head" screws for the WP. They're just ordinary 1/4"-20 x 1/2" IIRC.

Ok. I am not running any accecories. Just the water pump and the alt. I wanted to run a short pump, just to have more room between the radiator and the motor. So the pump is not supposed to hit that huh.....damn that is retarted. I just can't get a break with this thing. I have the pullies allready, if not I would just stick with the long set up. And I don't wana buy them all over again and the alt mount. Next year once I have $ again I will think about it. but for now I guess I will just get some "bottom" screws like you said. And use a feeler to see if it is rubbing. Good thing that bolt broke, or else I would have that TC being pressed in pretty hard right now. Thanks for your help as allways.
I guess I can allways grind them a bit if i need even more clearance. I just want to get this thing bolted togeather so bad. My ARP bolts should be here today (on the upside).
Oh well life goes on.

You can get the button-head screws at Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. or other hardware store; or your local bolt & screw place. If it was me I'd get stainless.
Don't forget to put sealer on the WP bolt threads. Use Permatex Automotive Pipe Thread Sealer With Teflon.

Yeah. I allready made myself a note to head over to home depot on the way home from work. And also to make sure I have some sealer left. I think I do. Thanks for the heads up. I might have forgot to get stainless.
