water leak-back of motor

here's a general rundown:
88 model block from machine shop. They installed the freeze plugs. I know sealant was used in this install. Installed vortec heads (prepped at same shop). Started motor, warmed up to temp, added water and coolant. Now there is a small steady stream of water coming from around the converter. Other than freeze plugs in back of motor, where could this come from? Was something overlooked?

This is a fresh rebuild. I bought the seasoned block (didn't need any overbore-machinist checked) and built using new parts. The block was not pressure-tested for water leaks.

When started ther was no oil coming from 4 pushrods. What's up with that? Someone said the lifters might be too tight. I know I didn't tighten them too tight. I only went 1/4 turn past 0.

If the water is coming from the converter area, there are only a coupel of possibilities. Either you have a leaking core plug, or a cracked casting. If it is coming from NEAR the converter area, that's a lot different. That could be a head gasket, cracker head, leaking oil cooler, failed core plug on the head, and intake.

I wouldn't be concerned with the apparent lack of startup oil before I solved the coolant leakage.
