Trans swap and effect on value?

I couldn't find an exact fit for where to place this questions, but decided this forum was good. If it should be moved, then I apologize.

But, I am wondering how swapping the auto trans out of a '92 Trans Am and replacing it with a 4th gen manual would affect the car's value? The car is a factory 350 car that came with an auto. I know not many of these cars were made, so I think it would be cool to pick one up before they get more expensive, but the one I am looking at has had the above mod done. What do you think?

Thanks for any opinions.

If anything its worth more. I'm assuming he swapped in a t56? These cars will never really be collectors cars. The stock tranny is just a 700r4, if your really worried you could just pick one up and store it.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I understand that these cars will never be full-blown collector cars, but with the production numbers of a '92 TA being so low, I assume that they will increase in value to some extent as the years go by...

Good idea WRT buying a stock trans to have, just in case. But, do you happen to know if there are any structural mods involved with swapping in a T56 that would make going back to stock more diccicult?

Well he would have changed the crossmember, and cut a hole for the clutch pedals. No big deal really, you can pick up a stock crossmember pretty cheap. Like I said, right now, having a t56 is a plus more then it is a minus. Heres a link of what would have been done to get that tranny in there. http://www.skulte.com/T56.html
