problem replacing fuel filter

I noticed my fuel lines (and the filter...and the stabilizer bars, diff, etc etc) are rusty. I tried replacing my fuel filter earlier while I had access to a lift and I cant get the thing to break loose. I used penetrating oil with no luck. Not trying to break the lines since this is my daily driver for the time being, but any good ideas on how to get the thing loose or should I just leave it be til I can get the lines replaced?

Definitely wait until you get new lines too. I made the mistake of breaking mine loose anyways and it snapped clear off.

PB'Laster Penetrating Oil

accept no substitutes

WD-40 is crap... I still use it around the house, but when I need something to actually penetrate rather than lightly lube.....

PB'Laster

I twisted and broke the fuel line on my son's 89 305. All it took was a kit from napa and a little measuring and a tube cutter. I think it reconected with a compression fitting if that's the right term?

try aero-kroil if you can find it for a penetranting lube. I use it on airplanes and on my truck for suspension work (283000 miles makes a lot of rust). I get it from aerospace products international but I'm sure you can find it elsewhere. Also ZEP 45 works pretty well too.

I used the penetrating oil we use at work...so all I know is it's industrial grade, not the cheap stuff.

but naturally rather than breaking my fuel lines since I decided against doing it I managed to break a stabilizer (torsion? I forget the right name for them) bar. They were that rusty and the recent rain (not to mention the deicing crap they use on the hills near my house) made it finally give way. My driving might have been part of it too...lol

You mean rear lower control arm or tracking bar?

the 2 bars that cross near the differential. So far Ive heard them called 3 or 4 different things. I havent really had to deal with non-motor/tranny type issues up til now if you couldnt tell lol

[edit] Now that Im looking, Its the control arm. I busted the driver's side one. Im on the hunt for a pair of aftermarket ones [/edit]
