Harmonic balancer
So, the timing tabs broke off of the timing cover on my 92'rs lo3 305. And I just stabbed in a new distributor. Now I cant time it. My question is, what size harmonic dampner did the 305 have, and will one of those generic bolt up sbc chrome tabs from autozone work?

Yeah, the generic ones should work fine if they are for SBCs. I think that the 305s came with the 6 inch balancer, but it could be the 8 inch. Mine's not stock any more, so I cant remember. You can still time it just fine to the point where it will run. Turn the engine to TDC on the number one cylinder and mark on the timing cover where the mark on the balancer is, and that will give you your 0 timing mark. 8* advance will be 3/4 to an inch left of the 0 mark as I recall.

More like 6.75" or 8". Most likely 6.75.
Where was the tab, close to 12 o'clock, or more like 2 o'clock? If the former, the bolt-on aftermarket tabs tyically don't work.
