Engine struggles under heavy acceleration

My car had been sitting for about 2 weeks without being started or anything. Im not sure if that has anything to do with my problem or not. When i went to start it, it started right up. However when i was driving, if i was too nail it off the line it would pull like hell, then spit and sputter and die, then it would start going again. Fuel pressure is set at 6 PSI and i adjusted the float according to the edelbrock book. Is it possible that the floats could have moved?
Oh and in case its not in my sig, its a edelbrock 1406 carb.

Did it run fine before you parked it? If so, have you tried filling up with good fuel?

When was the last time you changed the fuel filter. It could be partially clogged letting enough fuel thru for normal idling cruising but not enough under full load.

Pull the carb off, remove the air-horn and give it a good cleaning. It should be fine. You may have got some moisture in the bowls. Take a look when have the air horn off before you poor out the gas. Don't forget to clean out the air-bleeds while you're at it. Some of them are just drilled into aluminum so moisture tends to make them corrode.
PB-blaster or carb cleaner will fix it but you'll need to remove the carb to do it right.

im having the same problem only i have a tbi. I let it sit for a while and it is actually in the garage right now. Has been outside for a winter yet but anyways it does start up fine everytime and idles fine. Whenever i start to drive as soon as i upshift and give it gas it almost wants to die unless i stay real light on the pedal and accelerate real slow. If i punch it you would the think that all 4 wheels are gonna fall off and the engine is gonna drop it shakes so hard. It gets a little better as the rpms get a little higher. Car shifts fine and engine seems to be fine like always. I just want the problem gone.

Keep in mind that an ignition misfire can cause symptoms like that too. Most times it's a tired or dirty sparkplug that only misfires when it's under load. Dirt inside the distributor cap may cause this too.
Check all the basics.
