Adjusting fuel pressure on Mallory regulator?

Hi, I've got a Mallory regulator on my car and I want to up the fuel pressure a bit. I'm running about 4.5 psi. at idle right now on a carbed SB, NA. Does that seem okay? I thought it seemed a little low.

Anyways, I have a Mallory regulator on the car. It's mounted to the inside of my fender. It has a steel braided line going into it from the tank, a rubber line going out of it (most likely the return line) and a line going to the carb. There's an allen screw on top of the regulator. I went to turn that, but I can't get it to budge, it felt like I'd break of strip something if I tried to turn any harder. Am I adjusting the right screw? If not, which one do I adjust?

Most (some?) regulators have a lock nut. Check for that on the adjusting screw, if there loosen it a little to turn the adjuster. Then snug it down to lock the setting.

You have to first loosen the locking nut around the adjuster screw.

yes. 4.5PSI is a perfectly acceptable carb pressure.

do NOT go over 6PSI...

really, theres no reason for you to adjust it now. carbs do not use a high pressure fuel system.

I understand that carbs don't use a ton of pressure, but it idles at 4.5 psi and at WOT it's more around 3-3.5 psi. I thuoght that seemed a little low.

Is the hold-down screw a large screw, or just something small? Also, it is the top allen screw that I adjust right?

Yup. Loosten the jam nut, set it with the big adjustment screw, then retighten the jam nut down.
