won't idle, but runs?
Hey guys, this is my first post here and i just recently compled a rebuild of a sbc 400, 2.02 heads, torker 2 intake and holley 750dp feeding the beast. The carb has been also rebuilt.
I can't get the car to idle at all, but if i start it and stay on the gas she runs good, as soon as i let off it dies. The primary jets in the car are 86's I believe, I was thinking that it may need larger jets.
Any help much appreciated.

it sounds like a vacuum leak, get someone to keep the engine running ,get some wd 40 and spray around the base of the carb ,if it idles its the carb gasket ,if this doesnt work spray between the heads and intake if this works its the intake gaskets ,if not check all vacuum hoses hope this helps jimmy

Vacuum leak like he said.
Improper initial timing could be a factor too.
Does it stumble and stutter or just die out on you?
later

it just dies out, runs perfect with a litttle gas. I did have my throttle plate welded and I had to grind the weld down on the side of the flange so the acc pump cover would clear, it may be possible that i never grinded enough off for the carb body to sit flush.
Still too cold up here to even try to pick at the car lol.

Check your other post about the camshaft.
Will want greatly increased initial timing at idle.
Jetting for a 750Dp should be 70-72 primary and 80-83 sec.
You'll need a 3.5 or 4.5" power valve with the Blue racer cam
