the rear gear ratio, true cpr, your cylinder head flow numbers, your engine clearances, spring bind, piston to valve, rocker ratio,ETC. if you need to pass emmision testing?, and the stall speed ( if your running an auto trans) has a huge effect on the cam design you can effectively run.
sellecting a cam that matches your cars operating rpm range only under full throttle racing conditions will generally make for a poor street combo.
theres a great many cams available that can work, but your best course of action is to sit down and write out the TRUE COMBO, youll use and call several cam companys for thier advice (lieing, exagerating, or telling them about parts you MIGHT install, or think youll eventually install, in your combo is a sure way to screw up the results, be 100% truthful about everything when sellecting a cam)

I buy and install more cams in a years time than most guys do IM very sure of that, as I rarely go more than a few weeks without being involved in sellecting and in most cases installing a cam and while Ive tried many AFTERMARKET manufacturers, over the last 35 years or so I think sellecting which cam manufacturer you deal with, should basically comes down to which cam companys have the most experianced personel and which companys STAND BEHIND THIER PRODUCTS

CRANE

CROWER

LUNATI

ERSON

and basically in that order, are the cam companys I do the most bussiness with and have had the best results from.
if YOUR favorite cam manufactures not on that short list it means one of two things, Ive EITHER ,NEVER delt with them, which is easily possiable, OR IVE HAD SEVERAL BAD EXPERIANCES with them, thier personel, or thier products, a company can make a good product, but if their personel are not knowledgable, about thier product line, can,t answer questions or rude I won,t deal with them, after several such experiances with them

do yourself a favor and CALL and talk to several cam companys BEFORE buying the cam for your engine, write down all the info about your car, tell each cam manufacturer the same EXACT INFO,and DO NOT discuss info other cam companys give you, take detailed/ careful notes as to the part# lift ,duration and LCA each company suggested

CRANE 1-386-258-6174 Tech Line

crower 1- 619-422-1191

ERSON 1-772-882-1622

Isky 1-323-770-0930

LUNATI 1-(270) 781-9741

then BUY the cam that comes closest to the average suggested specs this method basically prevents you from getting one adviser who has little experiance from giving you bad info!
