If there is no belt on my smog pump (And there hasn't been since WELL before I bought the car, does it still serve a purpose.)

If not, were I to take it off what would I need to know? What do I need to plug off where the hoses are going now?

Thanks in advance guys. If it's gonna get taken off it will have to be today so any info will be helpful.

::EDIT:: I'm not expecting a boost in power or anything. I'm just looking to clean up the engine bay, and make it easier to get to the Valve covers (Which will be changed this weekend too)
