wont run well-choke light solid on

Alright... Where to begin.

I bought a 1986 Camaro a few weeks back, after finally saving up to get one of these (love it!). However, lately I've been getting nothing but problems, and the most serious of them seems to be this- An annoying buzz under the dash (comes from the choke relay), and a solid choke light. I've searched the forums for a few hours, and can't seem to find the solution.

I had my alternator tested, as the choke light was related to that system in ways (some other threads had said), and it was fine. Not believing that, I bought a new one, mostly for the lifetime warranty. When I put the new one into my car, my voltage gauge went above 18, and then dropped way behind 0. Dead gauge now, and when I metered the battery with the car running, it was between 17V and 19V. I took the new alternator back and had it tested... And it tested great.

My car runs extremely poor at the moment, stuttering when I'm at low RPM, and seems pretty gutless when I accelerate. The buzz from the relay used to come on intermittenly(SP?) a few days ago, and is now fairly constant. Anyway... Help me, internets! I'd love to hang onto this car, as I'd been wanting one for so long.

I think heatsoak was the term, but if I run it a while and kill it, the car will struggle to start, or even fail to start altogether. If I give it time to cool off, it'll start up no sweat.

Anything over 14.4 volts is way too much, I'd double check that alternator and make sure it's not over charging. As far as the choke light. Check your fuses. There a fuse at the top of the box that blows and turns the choke light on. Right off the top of my head I cant remember which exact fuse it is.

That was exactly it! I had checked the fuses right before this happened, and didn't think of checking them again. Kickin' myself right now for spending so much on buying other stuff, hehe. Thanks a lot, glad I found this place! Now I can start looking forward to driving rather than fixing .

Oh- I had checked the alternator, both off and on the car, tested just fine.

Make sure your choke wire is connected to the choke on the carb. They will come loose and will ground out and blow the fuse. Congrats on the car.
