i work at action gator tire here in orlando and the other day a van came in knocking and to make a long story short i got the motor for free but it needs a new crank so i went online and looked up the casting on the block,heads,and crank turns out the block is 4 bolt main same block they use for ZZ4 crate motor and the heads are 170cc intake 64cc chamber 1.94/1.5 cast vortec. the heads im going to put on my 87 GTA and the heads on my car are going on the other motor i was thinking it to a 327 becuase no one builds and plus i want to put in it a S-10 pick-up i dont want to do a 383 because to many people build those and i like to be different. now im doing research and looking for parts. the good thing is my dad owns a machine shop so all the work is free i just have to buy the parts. im build the heads to 2.02/1.6 and port and polish and see how it turns out. i cant wait! if you have any hints and knowledge my ears are always open thanks let everyone know how it comes along.

 

Post the casting #'s from the heads.

Not surprising on the block. Same thing was used for most any 350 one-piece engine. It's what went into and on the block that made the ZZ4's special.

 

My first bit of advice would be to check out the engine swap board. There is a thread there about the 350/327 debate. You may find some interesting facts there too.

 

the casting #'s are 10239906 ya i was talking to shagwell which has helped me build my car and im sticking with a 350 but i going to put the vortecs on my engine in the car now and with the block build it top notch with a bigger cam and alum. heads

 

We opened up a can of worms on that one, I'd say.

As for the heads, if you're not going to port them, I would leave the intakes at 1.96." Anything more and velocity might be compromised as it's a very decent port design. Exhaust could use work, though.

 

I figured we would, but it needed to be made. The nice part is, instead of having an out of control thread once a week, we can just reference people to that one.
