Solid Lifter for the street...

Howdy guys,

I am pondering the idea of a solid cam in my car.

Besides lash adjustment problems, what other complications will there be?

Nothing besides solid flat tappet.

RPM range i'm looking at is 3k-7k...

the heads i am using are ported old, camel hump, heads. they flow quite well, but not really comparable to aftermarket heads, but do get the job done quite well.

What modifacations will have to be done?

I have a brand new set of Roller rockers 1.5ratio, waiting to be installed after my motor is finished.

anyone have any suggestions/comments?

I think it will be fine for the street, as long as you get the right grind for your combo and, of course, get the springs the cam maker suggests. I'm going to run a solid roller cam in my 383 (see sig) and it will be streetable. Also, modern solid cams are miles ahead of their earlier brethren and lash adjustments shouldn't be a real problem at all.

BTW, remember those old Chrysler slant sixes? They had solid lifters, ran for 300,000 miles and no one ever bothered to adjust their valve lash. VW type 1 motors were also solid lifters, so if two of the most reliable engines ever built had solid lifters, yours can too. My $.02

lot of SBCs had solids and ran on the street. lash or resetting it isn't as much an issue as people make it out to be. only thing you might conisder is if it'll have any effect on the knock sensor.

I have full intentions of running my solid roller engine on the street. Set it up right and you will be fine.
