It is possible to change the crank & bearings with engine in the car. I have done it myself.

While it may be possible, it will be much easier to just pull the engine out and put it on a stand. Also much less potential damage to parts. Infact, I don't see how you could install a crankshaft properly upside down. Plus, you can do more with the engine out (regasket everything) with less time.

I'd recommend pulling the engine and doing a full inspection.

What makes upside down so hard other than fighting gravity? I would recomend pulling the engine too. Like I said I have done it as have many techs I have worked with over the years. Flat rate techs find some creative ways to do repairs.

if you spun a main your crank and block are trash if you spun a rod bearing then only the rod and crank are trashed. either way you need to take everything apart and have it cleaned and replace the bearing, rings, etc.
