knocking sound, think its coming from the tranny
Everything sounds fine when the engine is in park and reved up to redline. With light acceleration everything is fine also. I have done an engine swap with an LT1 and put in a rebuilt 700r4 tranny with about a new 2500 rpm stall. Haven't upgraded the gears yet, they are 2.73 posi. Flexplate is stock from the LT1. TV cable is adjusted correctly.
Around like 5-30mph, if i tap the accelerator quickly and let off, i hear a knocking/clicking sound. Sound like its coming from the front of the car somewhere. The quicker i tap the pedal, the worse the sound is. But if I ease into the throttle then i dont notice anything. Only happens after with low rpms, if i tap it quickly at about 2500, i hear nothing also.
Anyone have a clue on this noise. I'm thinkin either flexplate, torque converter, or me running 89 octane on an engine tuned for 91.

Have you checked your torque converter bolts yet? They or it could be loose being it only does it under a load in gear. If it was an octane problem it would sound like a rattle not knock.

Rattling? you better get some good octane in there! Or at least back the initial timing down a little and see if that helps. Advance could be coming in too fast also. What do you have the initial set at now?

well checked the bolts and ran about 40 miles on 91 ocatane and i still hear the sound only when driving when i stomp on the gas when i have low rpms. I'm thinking its the torque convertor.

You never stated what your initial timing was set at. The computer doesn't set that for you, it just changes the total amount and the rate at wich it advances. I'm not sure if you have the timing control link by the firewall but if it does you need to disconnect it and then check your timing. You could have to much and just need to back it down a couple of degree's. Try it and see if it helps. It might take another tank full of 91 to hear results also. How is your car starting? Is it cranking slow when cold or hot? I'm trying to help find something simple so you don't blame the worst case scenario. It could be something like an exaust part hitting the frame or something. Anyway, take it slow and keep an open mind when looking for a problem. The hardest thing to do is diagnoss your own car cause yer freakin out over the fact that something ain't right and want to find it and fix it as quick as possible. I've wasted money throwing parts on only to find that it was something else, yet I've worked on other peoples cars and found some of the dumbest crap that I wouldn't have found so easier on my own.

i checked out the mount too while i was under there, and it looked alright from what i could see. Its more like a repeated ticking/knocking/clunking noise only when i stomp the pedal quickly and when i do it the car doesn't really accelerate. I have a spare torque converter that i'm going to try tomorrow.

I had a similar problem... ticking noise coming from the back of the engine. It turned out that my flexplate was cracked all the way around where it bolts to the crank.
I didn't figure that one out until i pulled the engine/tranny and saw it, I could push it with my hand and could hear it tick.

i swapped driveshafts also while i took out the torque converter, so not u-joints. What it could also be is the timing. I had a performance tune loaded into the computer for the LT1 which adjusted it, so i'm going to try returning the computer to stock and see what happens.
