Good ignition?
What would be a good ingition upgreade for my car? I had the distributer replaced, but it is a junker. Had to at the time. Now I want an upgrade instead of a replacement. I want cap, rotor, distributor the whole 9 yards. What would be good without butchering my wallet? Thanks, guys.

MSD loyalists get flamed on this forum b/c certain people have had problems with them. I love MSD stuff, I would go for the Pro Billet plug 'n play distributor for your application. May be overkill but it will last forever. That along with their coil, an MSD 6AL and a good set of wires (I'm not a fan of MSD wires) will have you on the right track.
I say it would depend on how modified the engine is and what you'll be doing with it. For a street car with boltons a complete Ingition upgrade to something like the MSD 6AL box might be a bit overkill. It definately wouldnt hurt you, but I dunno about that being a good bang for the buck. If you got some crazy high rev built motor then yeah it would probably make more sense. So it depends. I think our stock ignitions are pretty good. For my 89 IROC-Z I wanted better than stock but its a mild setup with boltons so I didnt want to go overboard. I upgraded the wires to MSD 8.8's, put the MSD cap and rotor on a stock replacement distributor, and upgraded the coil to a MSD coil. This was a good upgrade for my setup, everything fit in the stock locations too. For my 91 Z28 I'm running boost so a complete upgrade with a new ignition box was not too much of an overkill. On that car I'm running the MSD 6BTM w/ 8.8 MSD wires, pro billet MSD Dizzy and a MSD Blaster 2 coil. That setup was alot more expensive than the one I put in my IROC-Z but I think it was worthwhile (since it helps me control detonation on boost) but still a bit overboard as the engine is still stock internally. So kind of depends on the car setup and application and what you need/want. I would say start with the wires, cap and rotor. Cheap easy upgrades for the DIY'er. MSD is not the only option but they've given me excellent customer service so I stick with them.

I looked at the 6AL, and it is nice, but a bit too pricey for me now.
I found this. I think it would work for what I need. Would it be good? Might get a better distributor, I don't know yet. I have some Boushe single Plats and some Boushe wires lying around the house somewhere. Would those be good? I am upgrading the heads to some aluminum L98s (083s) and an LT1 cam. I justt figured a little be ingnition would help.

I run the 6 HVC setup on my 400 with no problems. But in your case, I would just stick to a good distributor and coil for beginners. Again, MSD would probably get the look if it were me.
FYI - 083's aren't aluminum heads - they're iron.

I would go with a new stock style dist. and upgrade the coil to msd and also cap and rotor. Some AC plugs and good 8 mm wires. This will be great for a stock engine and maybe some basic bolt ons. If you get into more serious power, then you would need to go with an MSD controller.

Thanks guys. I think that I will go with good, but not overkill. I want to make sure the advance is be right throughout the RPM range and getting enough spark, but I don't want to overdo it. Well, my wallet doesn't anyway.
I know about the 083s being iron. The 113s are aluminum. I have been poking around looking at heads, and I just got things crossed. Thanks for the attention to detail.
