what is dry sump and what is its benifit?
What is this dry sump i hear about, a search really didnt help.
I hear its good for a few extra ponies, is this something that can be done on the gen 1 sbc?

A dry sump system stores the oil in a separate reservoir instead of in the sump in the oil pan. There's no oil pump pickup to get uncovered during cornering or braking in road racing. There's also less oil in the pan to splash around and get in the way of the crank.

Unless your serious about racing, it's awfully expensive for minor HP gains. You need a whole new 2 stage oil pump, pan, lines, and oil storage tank. On the plus side, you can hold more oil, say 8-10 quarts as opposed to 5-6, and you never have to worry anout "sucking the pan dry" at high RPM and starving for oil.

does anyone know of a parts list or places to get the parts for a dry sump setup? im thinking of doing dry sump on a 400sb.
