IAT mod ??
http://diycars.tripod.com/iatsensr.html
Is it:
1) Absolutely worthless ?
2) Worth trying although won't really do anything ?
or
3) Worthless AND dangerous to your engine ?

How come though ? Thought this was one of the mods that try to tell the ECM the incoming air is cooler ? Is it actually overriching the mixture ?

Oh I know pretty much anything can be made better by doing PROM burning, but I was simply asking because I was curious.

What happens is the resistor fools the computer into thinking that the incomming air is cold. because the motor thintks the air is cold, it adds more fuel so it runs richer just like on those cold winter mornings.
The problem is that often, the computer wont go into closed loop. this could lead to fouled plugs, and will definatly cost you some gas milage. Could also be hard on your cats with that much extra fuel in the mix all the time.
Want to try it yourself? Put your IAT in the freezer for awhile, then measure the resistance with an ohm meter. Go to Radio Shack and find a resistor with that resistance and plug it in. Should cost you about $0.25, and you probably won't gain anything.

Basically in theory cold air and fuel makes more power than hot air in smaller amounts mixed with fuel.
That's what the ECM feels
However, physically, the air is not cold enough, the ECM just thinks it's there
OK, thanks guys, got it all cleared now. And heh .. nope I don't think I'll try the freezing nor resistor test
