83 camaro ticking

ok i have a 83 camaro 2.8 2bl carbed. i hear this ticking coming from my engine bay i dont know what it is i found it . in the front on the drivers side of the engine bay there is a vacume canister and next to it a circulat thing that kinda looks like an accordian when i push it togeather the idle goes up and then of course it goes back out. what is that and should it be ticking?? Thanks in advance

Well, the most common reason for a 'ticking' sound in the engine bay is an exhaust manifold, or an exhaust header that is not bolted down tight to the heads. When this happens, gas escapes after each fire of the cylinder, so you get a small 'tick' each time a cylinder on that side of the engine fires. This is remedied by getting the engine nice and warm and then torquing those studs back down, and if that doesnt work, you have to get new gaskets and then use some copper sealant to make sure you get a nice permanent seal.

But, in your case, I am kind of confused, because your explanation was not quite clear. Is the ticking coming from that circular 'accordian' thing, or not, and if you can provide pictures of what you are talking about, that would be even better.

The accordion-looking piece is the servo control for your cruise. The reason your idle goes up when you push on it is your pushing on the cruise's throttle cable connection. The canoster next to it the Evap charcoal canister for the emissions system.Like Guitar stated the most common causes for a tick sound is an exhaust leak.Do you hear it less or mor as the car warms up.Also the tick can come from a lifter or something simple as low oil level(well simple if you catch it complicated if you run it to low obviously).
