Noise from the rear exaust
i have a 83 camaro 2.8 carbd 2bl. when the car sits at an idle i hear all kinds of little ticks almost coming out of my exaust and almost sometimes the sound of some one spitting . not back firing though. also for some more info the car some time diesles off and when i get to a cruising speed the car seemes to fluxuate idle speedor almost bog down when cruising. any ideas thanks in advance guys id love to get my car back up to par so the ole lady will get off my back about getting rid of it!!! thanks!

May be leaking exhaust valves. Two ways to check: 1) compression test, dry and wet; 2) compressed air to the cylinder with both valves closed (you can hear the air leaking out if you have valve or ring leaks, and where it is leaking from - carb = intake valves, exhaust pipe = exhaust valves, crankcase breather = rings).

um
well im not sure if that is it but i will have to get a compresson testor and try it. definatly worth a shot. the reason i say i doubt that that is it is every thing is new the 2.8 is oh i would say 4-5k new engine never had the problem during the first 5 k so could it be anything else ??? i will get a testor though and see how that turns out thanks
