disc brake upgrade

How big are the stock discs on a 4 wheel disc car?

What is the biggest disc i can go with on the stock 16" wheel?

Will i see much of any benefit in braking without also upgrading the caliper if i went to a crossdrilled and vented disc?

EDIT: and how many piston are stock calipers?

get some decent pads first of all, that makes alot of diferrence and yes you will feel a difference with drilled and vented discs especialy on fading when on a track and so on

Not sure how big you can go, others will know that. I'm using the stock Formula wheels on my car and going for Ed Miller's new Wilwood 4 piston set-up.

Cross-drilled and vented are for looks and not performance. I got cross-drilled rotors on my road race car by accident and they had good cracks coming from the round holes the first day! On the street you don't push 'em that hard so that should not be a problem.

1) 10.5 front & 11.655 rear
2) 12" If you have the money.
3) Cross drilled & vented rotors for the street are a waste of money for very small gains. Upgrades brake pads will have better results for street use.
4) Stock are single pistons front & rear.

Re: disc brake upgrade

Ed Miller has a kit that allows you to run a 13" rotor with a WilWood 4 piston caliper inside the stock wheels. What I am doing when I get the money later this summer.

The stock 1LEs had 2 piston front calipers. I agree about the cross-drilled/slotted not being a good idea for a street car. Put the money where it counts; pads and caliper upgrades (and larger diameter rotors, hehe)

Re: disc brake upgrade

this post is a bit old and before i knew better

I just realized a previous owner swapped 1LE brakes on my car, so im running a 11 3/4" front disc with the pbr dual piston calipers and some EBC Red Stuff pads, should stop quite nicely

Re: disc brake upgrade

I really need to start looking at the post dates on these things. Sounds like you are ahead of the game with the 1LEs. If I had those, I don't think I would swap on anything else unless I was to start serious road course racing.
