Serpentine belt, A/C compressor Question

OK, I didn't find what I was looking for with a search.... If I put a serpentine belt setup on an engine that didn't originally come with one, is it possible to hookup the a/c compressor to the setup and not actually hook up the a/c? I have heard that I might burn up the compressor if I did that.

I know that seems like a silly question, but I'd like to have a/c eventually, but it isn't a big deal right now (it's the dead of winter here and cash is always tight anyhow). I thought I would make provisions for it later, by getting the a/c version of the serpentine setup, but I didn't know if it was possible to just hook the compressor up without the a/c lines, evaporator, condensor, etc. or if I'd have to get the a/c delete pulley and hookup a compressor when I was ready to go full a/c.

you should just get the belt without the ac to avoid the problem of no oil to the compressor which could fry the compressor

If you don't try to run the compressor it won't matter. You will not harm the compressor as long as you leave the a/c clutch wire disconnected until you get it fixed properly. When the a/c clutch is deenergized the compressor IS NOT turning.

Slightly off the original question but this seemed closest I could find searching for an answer...if I disconnect the wires to the A/C compressor (that's the thing driven by a belt right?), and then remove it from being turned by a belt at all, it won't damage anything? (I intend on removing my A/C altogether later on...right now, I'd just like to start on it bit by bit).
