Flame me later---starter heat shield install

I went down to the new summit store here in McDonough (pretty cool BTW ) and picked up an 8pt cage, AN fittings and some other crap. I picked up a summit starter heat shield, SUM-G1369, to hopefully cure my hot start problems. My question is...how does it go on? I was looking at it tonight and I was thinkin that it just slid in between the block and the starter, but there are 2 small holes that couldnt possibly fit starter bolts. Can anyone tell me, or have any pics, on how it goes on? Im guessin it would have to be held on with the solenoid bolts or something on the starter iself. Again, please flame later. I havent had a chance to actually look at the starter and I wanna be able to slap it on in a halfhour or so, so I wanna make sure how it installs.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Usually, one solenoid screw, and one nut on the end of one of the long studs that hold the starter together.

Yeah, that sounds right. It's been years since I installed my Summit heat shield, but I seem to remember having to add a nut to an existing screw.

It definitely cured the heat soak.

It's different for each ehxaust header setup. Expect to have to modify it for a good fit. Here's a pic of mine with headman L/T's before I got the engine set in and had to modify it some more to allow removal and install of the starter with the heat shield on.

If you can get a second long starter bolt with the threaded end it helps a bunch. It also makes it a challenge to connect those wires to the solenoid.

Yes, that was the other thing. I got one of those Summit starter wiring harness that snaps onto the solenoid so that I could remove the starter wires just by unplugging a connector. A very good investment if you have that shield.

well my starter must have really been kickin the bucket with my new 383! even with the new heat shield installed, once the motor got over 160 degrees, it still wouldnt start. I got a deal at work on a GMPP hi torque mini, bolted it in with no shims and it starts like a dream. Even after driving it hard with a hot motor, itll turn over no problem. So in my case, the heat shield was a bandaid on a broken leg apparently
