External Inline Fuel Pump Questions
Has anyone installed an inline fuel pump, leaving the old fuel pump in the tank? I have a dead in tank pump now, but want to install an external inline without removing the dead pump so I can 1) drive it to the shop I work at to drop the tank and 2) keep it there for emergency back up purposes. The external pump I have is an MSD 2225, 125psi max output. Thanks -K-
PS going into an 89 5.7L tpi.

My 92 RS has an external fuel pump. It's not my job but I think it have been done by the precedent owner. I think; the stock fuel pump is already in the tank. It works fine except for the fuel gauge.
When the fuel tank is full, the needle of the full gauge indicates only half of the fuel tank capacity. But it's not a big problem.

My 1990 TBI pump went dead on me - out of town. I had to leave the car. I got a electric pump from a 1989 Dodge Conquest (it was around & had hoses still attached) and wired it inline on the fenderwell to get my car back home - I just cut the fuel lines and stuck it in with connectors, and found a hot-in-run wire to wire the pump, taped it on the fender, and drove home. It was actually 30 days before I got to the tank drop - and although it didn't run great, it ran fine enough to get me back and forth to work for 30 days - sucking through the old dead in-tank pump.

You don't want to suck fuel through a non-funtioning pump. If you're using an in-line pump as a booster that's a different story.

The inline pump would be only for emergency purposes, right now I need it to get the car to my shop so I can drop the tank on the lift and replace the intank unit. I just need it to work for a few miles, and then I'll use it as a secondary/ emergency backup.

Does anyone who has installed an inline external fuel pump have any pictures they can post of where they mounted the pump and how they plumbed it?
