valve spring ID to valve guide OD clearance
I bought some new valve springs (comp cams #977) for my torker heads and they dont want to fit over the valve guide base without really pushing on them. What kind of clearance should I have here?

when you had your valve spring pockets cut to accept the 1.460 springs,(you did didn't you?) did you have your guide bosses machined for higher lift cams as well?
what kind of valve seals are you using?
something doesn't seem right, the 977 is a double spring with a damper and an i.d. of .700.that should be plenty of room to fit over the guide bosses, although they are a bit on the small side of the i.d range.
we are talking about the damper sprinh not fitting right?
i know they should not be forced on the boss,if it was me,i'd be calling comp and asking them what's up?
keep us posted!

The pockets are were machined from the factory for 1.5 springs I believe. I havent mic'd the od on the guide but with a ruler it looks like almost a 3/4 inch. Havent put the seals on them yet but I have positive stop ones on the way. Its looking like I may have to get the heads machined down, which I doubt i'll be doing here in Germany. Really sucks.

Shouldn't be a problem getting the machine work done. European motors have valve guides too.
Get the guides cut down to .530" OD (13.5 mm is plenty close enough) and use REAL valve guide seals such as Comp 503 or Crane 99820.
