Hood Padding, on or off?

What is your opinon about the underside of the hood having the foam padding...does it look better on or off?...does it have a function?

I think the paint fades on the hood without it.

I've heard (don't know how true it is) that in the event of an engine fire, the plastic "pins" that attach it to the hood melt, & the "padding" drops & is supposed to smother the fire.

Like I said, I don't know how true it is, but I've decided to leave mine on.

Thats interesting, could be true...well, as long as there's no advantage of removing it, I guess I'll leave it be.

Its in good shape, so just leave it alone. Its not hurting anything. I took mine off, but only because it was all torn and furry-looking.

I think you should leave it on unless you plan on doing a wicked brust art on the inside of the hood :P

Get a new one if GM still makes them.. I ordered one from the dealership back in '00 or '01 and it was definitely a good investment. Makes an open hood look just great.

it is the truth, they are not "insulators" or sound dampners. these are fuctions that are sideffects.

That is your "fire blanket" in the even of a engine fire, it will fall.

Having it there will not suppress heat the hood is exposed to, it will just take longer for the heat to get there. I ran with mine off during the past winter, and at a red light, sure, there was "steam" coming from my hood, yet i didn't have a heater and was freezing.

I love hoods without them, they are much better when painted and all underneith as well...
