radiator hose
I just got my car on the road. I took it out for about 5 mins or so. when I got home I popped my hood and my upper radiator hose was hard as a rock. I am just wondering if this is normal or if I have a problem. thanks
Obviously, your upper hose was quite excited about finally getting out on the road...
The hose should have 14-16 PSI of pressure (along with the rest of the cooling system) once the engine is warmed, so long as the radiator cap is a stock rating and is not relieving pressure. If the cap is venting to the reservoir, the system may be overheating or there mak be gasket leaks bubbling combustion gasses into the cooling system.
What you describe sounds like it could be completely normal (since it is difficult to quantify "hard as a rock"). Beyond the fact that your phrase is metaphoric (actually, it's a simile, for us grammar *****), rocks can be found in various densities and hardnesses, from talc, gypsum, and sandstone to granite, marble, and diamond. A little better definition might make guessing a little easier.

thanks. I should know that it is normal but I just don't want to overlook something small and have a pop'd motor. I spent 2 years building this and I have been DYING to drive it. now that I got a taste I don't want it to go wrong. thanks for your help.
