Is this normal???

My assumption is not, but can someone explain to me why this happened?

I just attempted to break in my Lunati Voodoo cam and wiped out #6 intake lobe. It looks as if my lifter wasn't spinning in the bore.

Anyway, my bigger concern is why this hunk of metal is missing? I am running a brand new double roller timing chain. I installed the cam gear with the "front" stamping facing forward.

Please help!

Are you sure that wasn't there before? It doesn't look like the timing gear in your pic did that, because there are no marks that I can see on the gear. Most double roller chains are noticeably wider than the stock timing set is, and they do often need a little clearancing in exactly that spot to make them fit properly and not make contact with the block. I've seen it on a few blocks before (being ground off right there to clear the timing set) and IIRC, my block is also ground off a bit right there as well. It looks like the timing set did the clearancing on your block though, not the installer. You can just take some kind of rotary tool with a sanding drum or grinding bit and clean that up though. Thats not a big deal really.

Looks to me like the chain did it. See how there are two different wear grooves in the main mark, one above the other? They look like they would be from the side plates of the chain links. Looks like the outer side plates of the links are a little smaller than the inside plates causing the pattern we see in the pic, sorta stepped like.
