Carb/starting question
hello everyone, i am new to this site. i just bought an 86 iroc w/ the lg4 motor. its got an edelbrock carb and intake. when i first go to start the car in the morning, after (8-12 hours), it needs 7 shots to get it to fire on the first crank. what would cause that? the fuel filter and line is new. i tried increasing the accelerator pump stroke, still does the same thing.

The accelerator pump has nothing to do with starting the car. Could you possibly have a problem with the choke?

the choke does seem to take a while to go out. it idles real high when i first start it, then even after 5-10 mins of driving, i still have to knock the idle down. then i have no problem. it seems to be more apparent in the cold weather. could the choke be sticking/adjusted wrong?

I use a Holley, so it may be different, but... when I start mine, I step on the throttle once or twice to snap the choke shut and give it some pump shot, to get some fuel in it, then crank it, and it fires right away and idles around 12-1400 RPM. The idle does NOT go down by itself, I have to tap the throttle to knock it off the fast idle and drop it down to normal idle speed. From what I've read about other carb'd engines here, this seems to be normal/typical operation.

mine starts just like that, except it takes 7 shots to get to fire up right away. i was just wondering why i took so many shots. maybe its just the carb
