Code 42 headache

Okay here is the situation, I put an 89 '165 ecm in my 86 camaro, the engine is a .030 over 350, with 9.72:1 comp. a comp cams XE-268H-14 which has 224* of intake duration and 230* of exhaust duration, the lifts are .477 and .480 with 1.6 rockers. Holley stealth ram 24# injectors, 58 mm TB and Stock ignition, and DIY PROM's. The problem is I keep getting a code 42 from the computer, the weird thing is if I unplug the EST bypass (brn/blk wire with plug by pass side firewall you use to set timing) the code 42 goes away, AS LONG AS I keep the EST bypass unplugged, if I plug it back in, kill the car and start it back up the code 42 returns. All I have done so far is replace the entire distributor control module included, cap, rotor, and wires were all new (ACCEL). I have looked at the wiring harness pretty close and do not see any pinched frayed or cut wires. Also the car seems to run great other than a slight off idle stumble which could be TPS. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Code 42 Headaches **UPDATE**

Well, much to my amazement shortly after I posted this topic I went back to troubleshoot some more. So the first thing I did was follow instructions on checking possible causes of Code 42 such as bad control module. The first time I ran the tests it checked bad (REBUILT DISTRIBUTOR/ALL NEW PARTS). So I tested it again with the EST bypass connector disconnected, tested bad of course. After plugging in the EST bypass connector I then plugged the computer back in (the ECM has to be disconnected to conduct the tests) and checked for codes. I was very suprised that after the Code 12 (everything's cool code) the next code that appeared was a Code 54, then Code 12 again, CODE 54? Fuel pump low voltage? WTF? Well I have an inline fuel pump controlled by a switch and relay so I knew I was getting enough voltage, but since I was not using the factory ECM to control the fuel pump it was seeing low voltage. The fix was easy delete the Code 54 from the code. Code 54 is binary 01E0 with the hex value equal to C0 you can change this in your chip programmer software. I use pocket programmer, I went to edit buffer found 01E0 and changed its value from HEX E0 to C0. Presto chango the SES light is out and stays out. I am going to try to edit an XDF file in TunerPro RT so that all SES codes can be active or inactive.

**SES Codes in TunerPro RT**

Okay I got all the codes into TunerPro RT so that you can have them active or inactive. I put the code "switches" under the flags/switches portion of TunerPro RT. I will be posting the address of the XDF file, hopefully I can get it onto Craig Moates FTP site. Very soon you will be able to eliminate those annoying SES codes you cant do anything about. ie: EGR, Low fuel pump voltage (if you have your own switch/relay setup) etc...

**XDF file upload trouble**

For some reason I can't seem to upload my .XDF file with the SES code switches on to Craig Moates FTP site, any suggestions or alternate sites. Thanks!
