Timing Gear retainer bolt interferance
I'm installing a Comp XE Roller cam in a Roller block (87+). I had been running a Flat tappet cam before, so I purchased all the factory junk to make a roller cam work. Well, included in my shoping list was a new Timing Set. I bought a Cloyes True Roller set designed for Roller Cams(9-1145). Well the Cam gear doesn't really fit.
I can bolt it on, but as you can see in the 2nd picture the bolt holes line up really poorly when the Gear fits over the step on the cam.
In the 1st picture you can see the major issue, and that is the back of the timing gear gets caught up on the retainer plate bolt. The retainer plate i got didn't come with bolts, so I just dropped by the hardware store, and bought a set that fit. I'm assuming this is my problem.
Anyone been down this road before? Or have any ideas? I have a cheapie flexible Timing cover, so I would rather not use a cam button unless I have to. Any help is appreciated

Those bolt holes in the gear look PITIFUL. Nowhere near an equilateral triangle. And they're different distances apart, too.
Those bolts you have in the retainer plate are WAY WAY WAY too enormous. Factory ones are button head, with a Torx drive. About a third as tall as those hex heads. You can get them at the dealer; but they only come in packs of 10 or something, for about $12 a pack or so IIRC.

exactly what i needed. I found the GM part number for the bolts. 14093637As far as the bolt holes go, I'm not sure if it is the Cam or the Timing gear. I'm leaning toward the timing gear. It actually bolts up fine, but It just wasn't to my liking.
