brake help

brake help

1985 IROC

replacing the rear pads and rotors, and i cant get the the piston to sit back in the piston on the drivers side, I disconnected the ebrake and am using a c clamp but the piston wont go back in. any suggestions

posted on the brake board but noone helps over there

The rear pistons don't press in, they screw in.

on 85 they screw in, how do u do that, in the manual it says they press in

The manual says press in the front pistons. The rears have to be turned as they go in because of the threads on the parking brake mechanism. You can get a tool at the parts store to make it easier, or you can use waterpump pliers if you're extremely careful not to damage the piston face or the dust boot.

ok got the pistons in, went to mount everything back up and the aluminum brake line broke what can i do to fix this

Probably have to replace the line.

Axle/Gears: 10 bolt, true-trac, 3.73
the line from the center block to the sides is cheap ($5) and you can bend it by hand. I redid my hard lines due to corrosion.


BTW, what quadrant are you in? I've been seeing a lot of nice 3rd gens around now that the weather is nice, but few calgary members on TGO....
