What could be causing my car not to start....

When I wash the engine.....Sometimes, when I just wash the outside of the car, I get a SES light that goes away
after a couple hours...any ideas are appreciated!

Ignition components getting wet. Try not washing your the area around your distributor.

I was just thinking to myself last night how people can spray their engines down with a hose and expect everything to run right after doing that.
