how do i know were to set base timming?

how do i know were to set the base timmin on my 91 tpi motor...can i look at the bin file and tell? may be a stupid question and im sorry but im just not sure....thanks ryan

I believe TPI cars were set at 6* stock. The VECI label on the underside of the hood near the latch should tell you for sure.

the motor is in my 92 fullsize truck and it has a bigger cam ect.....i just wanted to find out what i need to set my base timming to....can i find out by lookin at my bin file or should i just set it to 6* befor TDC?

well i put the base timmin to 6 BTDC and took it for a drive...took a log and it knocks like crazzy i can hear it pinging when i get on it the knock counts just clime...last spring was my last log and it would not knock near as bad when i got on it maybe one or 2.....well me base timmin was advanced befor i put it a 6* today...why would it knock less when it was advanced? when i first checked it with the plug unhooked the notch on the balencer would jump all around a few *s and when i set it back to 6* BTDC and then checked it it was nice and still...not sure why this is also? im lost...am i doin somthin wrong?

set the base as far advanced as you can with out ping or starting problems. 36* total is a good point to aim for

alright when im readin the data log....it says my timming is about 22-26 at cruze so you say it would be best to try to shoot for this to read 36?

you want your total timing, base + vacuum + mechanical ( or eletrical) to be around 36*
