Heads for a 350

I ahve a 72 Truck block that i just got for $50. I want to build a 383 and am looking for high 300 low 400 hp ratings. with a good port polish and angle job could this be done with stock 350 heads? if not what are good aftermarket heads that could get me there for cheap. (ie. no AFR or brodex kind of thing)

The best bang for the buck aftermarket heads I have seen are the RHS vortec heads. They flow just as good as the high end aftermarket heads till .500 lift then the other heads take over. For the power your looking for the AFR and heads of the like would be a waste since they really shine in higher lifts you will never use.

what casting # are the heads? It can probably be done, but it'd be difficult, and not terribly efficient.

edelbrock or vortec heads would be a good thrifty choice. Certain factory heads would work, 083's probably. The ones on your '72 block (993s or 882s?) probably wouldn't.

Yes, vortec heads require a vortec stlye intake. Ltx heads are reverse cooling and will not work without modifications.
