Fuel line connector??

The line going to the fuel filter and between the gas tank cracked. While unhooking it, I realized it's fitted to a rubber hose with a metallic connector. I don't know if the fuel line is in the connector permanently but I tried to pull it out and no go. What am I dealing with here?

There is a steel tube at the tank-top unit which transistions to a hose, then back to a short steel tube for connection to the filter. Since it could potentially be subjected to 80 PSI, I'm not sure replacing it with anything else would be completely safe. If any of the steel tubing attached to the hose near the filter end is intact, you could use a sleeve/ferrule compression type connector to splice a new section of steel to it. If the hose is cracked, you really should replace the entire piece. Unfortunately, the tank has to be removed to replace the hose.

Here's my problem, instead of a fuel pump problem, which I would drop the tank for, I think there's a partial block in that tank to filter fuel line so I wanted to replace the whole thing, or atleast take out the whole thing. The rubber hose is fine. But do I have to drop the tank to just replace that line? I have no way of knowing if sectionalizing will help matters, although dozens of people have suggested this.
