Intake warpage............

What would you consider warped?

Massive problem car that we are still having issues with.

Accell intake on it was bought used and after pulling our hair out on everything else we yanked it.

I got my feeler guages and Snap On flat bar(straightedge for checking heads/intakes/etc.

Depending on the angle I tested I could get from .002 to .005 feeler blades thru.

Thats wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much for my liking and I know cylinder heads need to be surfaced/cut down when they hit .003 warpage.

I could literally set the flat blade across it at the EGR and rock it side to side and you could hear it go "tink tink" as I rocked it.

Since I didnt have a spec we cleaned and checked my known good stocker from my 55k GTA and found that at worst it was .002 out and we couldnt make it rock back and forth going straigh across the port faces.

This wouldnt be the first junk Acell intake I have seen from warpage either.

  1. Are you saying that are is 2-5 thousandths clearances along the entire head/intake flange length?
  2. Is the intake aluminum?
  3. What gaskets were used?
  4. Have you had your straightedge calibrated lately? {Don't laugh. Straightedges, granite tables and platens, and beams all require calibration. Granted, a few thousandths would be WAY out and noticable.)

If the intake was improperly torqued in a previous installation, that could explain the warpage. If you are reading 0.005" clearance along the entire length, and it is in one continuous arc, it is probably O.K. If it has several high and low points along a length, it is probably junk if not trued. A reasonable gasket should easily compensate for a few thousandths if it isn't in waves or steps.

ITs got low and high points along the length and depending on which direction you check it for.

Straight edge should be fine. It comes out rarely and ALWAYS stored flat :-)

I was kinda figuring on what u said, I just didnt have a spec lol

Anyhow it is getting assembled with my older stocker intake at least temporarily.

They whole side if the intake(accell) is more or less like a wave, with variances running down the runner faces straight, diagonally and at almost any way u can straight edge it.

The stocker in almost all instances does not display the same inaccuracies.

Thanks Vader
