Opinions on Vortec Heads and Manifold

My plan was to find a set of stock heads and port/polish them for my 305TBI. I was talking to my friend and he suggested I just get a set if GM Performance Cast Iron Vortec heads along with the GM Performance Vortec TBI Intake. The heads are $250 a piece and the intake is $330, so $830 for the whole deal.

What do you guys think of this? Should I hold out for aluminum heads or do you think cast iron is fine? Anyone have any experience with these products? If you don't like them, do you have any suggestions for something else?

Also, these have a combustion chamber volume of 64cc, but the L03 needs 58cc correct? Would I just get these milled down?

Here are the two product links:

Chevy High Performance did this a couple years ago, but I dont know how they did it. By milling the heads down that much, you are guaranteed to mess up the accessory bolt holes on the front so your accessories wont bolt on. They put in a mild 208 camshaft too, and lots of tuning, and ended up with 257 HP at the wheels

If it were my engine, I would put the money towards aftermarket heads that don't require a new manifold. Especially if it's going to cost that much.

true $330 is a little steap for a manifold. I think I am just going to port/polish my stock heads and go with the edelbrock manifold for $220 or so.

Dart iron eagles can be had for nearly the same price, and you can retain your stock manifold, so in the end you might even save money. You may also be able to buy them in a 58cc version.
