What would cause a car to backfire through the exhaust as loud as a gun shot?
keep in mind i am working on tryin to get the timing right

Unburned fuel being sent into hot exhaust system can cause loud backfire. Sounds like you indeed have timing issues to correct or possibly a out of order plug wire? Did you remove the distributor or replace the carb if so equipped? What event led up to this situation?

 

finally got it working better. dizzy was 180 out. its starts and runs now. needs a little tuning but its running and driving.
